Le lièvre, le long du fossé,
S’en revenait d’un pied qui boite,
Et son allure maladroite
Révélait qu’il était blessé.

Tout fumant, le poil hérissé,
La bouche en sang, l’oreille droite,
Le lièvre, le long du fossé,
S’en revenait d’un pied qui boite.
— « Ah ! s’il pouvait être pansé !
Mais la pauvre bête est bien coite. »
Et quand j’arrivai le front moite,
Hélas ! il avait trépassé,
Le lièvre, le long du fossé.
