Un lugubre coquerico
Retentit soudain sur le chaume.
Or la nuit qui jamais ne chôme
Commence à faire son tricot.

Rouge comme un coquelicot,
Le soleil ferme son royaume.
Un lugubre coquerico
Retentit soudain sur le chaume.

Et Jean hâte son bourriquot,
Car le coq du clocher fantôme
Ouvre ses deux ailes de gnome ;
Et c’est lui qui jette à l’écho
Un lugubre coquerico.
