La Ruine maudite

De tous côtés, la ronce, effroyable broussaille,
Grimpe férocement au long de la muraille.
Sur un long banc de pierre, affreux comme un tombeau,
Mélancoliquement médite un vieux corbeau.
Un grand saule, courbé comme un homme qui souffre,
Baigne ses cheveux verts dans un horrible gouffre
Qui dort plein de mystère et de lents grouillements.
L’eau clapote, et l’on voit de moments en moments
Une forme d’aspic, qui vaguement s’efface,

Parfois entre les joncs bouger à la surface.
Des champignons hideux, suppurant le poison,
Poussent lugubrement aux coins de la maison,
Et le reptile meurt à côté de leur tige.
Un puits, dont l’aspect seul donnerait le vertige,
Ouvre sa large gueule au milieu de la cour.
Un énorme lézard sur la margelle court
Et cherche sous la brume, affolé, presque roide,
Un rayon de soleil pour chauffer sa peau froide.
