En amour, l’homme est la souris
Pour qui toute femme est la chatte.
Le sot ne voit pas l’ongle gris
Sous le doux velours de la patte.

Il pompe, le pauvre imprudent,
La chère moiteur qui l’arrose,
Sans songer qu’une horrible dent
Est derrière la langue rose.

Je vous le dis en vérité,
Savant, philosophe, poète :
On s’emplit d’animalité
En se frottant à cette bête.

La femme sur qui les soupçons
Aiguisent leur âpre souffrance,
N’est qu’un abîme de frissons
Où s’engloutit notre espérance.

Depuis l’orteil jusqu’aux cheveux,
Toute femme est une Aspasie,
Disant : « Moi, l’amour que je veux,
« C’est un amour de fantaisie.

« J’ai toujours un nouveau désir
« Dans mes veilles et dans mes sommes ;
« Je suis la mouche du plaisir
« Papillonnant d’hommes en hommes ;

« Le mâle que j’ai convoité,
« Je l’aime, jusqu’à concurrence
« D’une ou deux nuits de volupté,
« Et puis mon amour devient rance.

« J’ai dans le crâne un réservoir
« De larmes, filles du caprice ;
« Pour bien manier le mouchoir,
« Je n’ai pas besoin d’être actrice.

« Ma poitrine est un arsenal
« Où pendent cris, soupirs et plaintes,
« Si bien doublés d’art infernal,
« Qu’on s’englue à mes douleurs feintes. »

Ainsi le sexe féminin
Se dessine dans ma pensée :
Magique, doucereux, bénin,
Le cœur sec et l’âme glacée.
