Puis m'apparut une pointe aiguisée
D'un diamant de dix pieds en carré,
A sa hauteur justement mesuré,
Tant qu'un archer pourrait prendre visée.
Sur cette pointe une urne fut posée
De ce métal sur tous plus honoré :
Et reposait en ce vase doré
D'un grand César la cendre composée.
Aux quatre coins étaient couchés encor
Pour piédestal quatre grands lions d'or,
Digne tombeau d'une si digne cendre.
Las, rien ne dure au monde que tourment !
Je vis du ciel la tempête descendre,
Et foudroyer ce brave monument.
