Ô que tu es heureux, si tu connais ton heur,
D'être échappé des mains de cette gent cruelle,
Qui sous un faux semblant d'amitié mutuelle
Nous dérobe le bien, et la vie, et l'honneur !

Où tu es, mon Dagaut, la secrète rancoeur,
Le soin qui comme une hydre en nous se renouvelle,
L'avarice, l'envie, et la haine immortelle
Du chétif courtisan n'empoisonnent le coeur.

La molle oisiveté n'y engendre le vice,
Le serviteur n'y perd son temps et son service,
Et n'y médit-on point de cil qui est absent :

La justice y a lieu, la foi n'en est bannie,
Là ne sait-on que c'est de prendre à compagnie,
A change, à cense, à stock, et à trente pour cent.
