La terre y est fertile, amples les édifices,
Les poêles bigarrés, et les chambres de bois,
La police immuable, immuables les lois,
Et le peuple ennemi de forfaits et de vices.

Ils boivent nuit et jour en Bretons et Suisses,
Ils sont gras et refaits, et mangent plus que trois
Voilà les compagnons et correcteurs des rois,
Que le bon Rabelais a surnommés saucisses.

Ils n'ont jamais changé leurs habits et façons,
Ils hurlent comme chiens leurs barbares chansons,
Ils content à leur mode et de tout se font croire :

Ils ont force beaux lacs et force sources d'eau,
Force prés, force bois. J'ai du reste, Belleau,
Perdu le souvenir, tant ils me firent boire.
