Je ne découvre ici les mystères sacrés
Des saints prêtres romains, je ne veux rien écrire
Que la vierge honteuse ait vergogne de lire,
Je veux toucher sans plus aux vices moins secrets.

Mais tu diras que mal je nomme ces Regrets,
Vu que le plus souvent j'use de mots pour rire :
Et je dis que la mer ne bruit toujours son ire,
Et que toujours Phoebus ne sagette les Grecs.

Si tu rencontres donc ici quelque risée,
Ne baptise pourtant de plainte déguisée
Les vers que je soupire au bord ausonien.

La plainte que je fais, Dilliers, est véritable :
Si je ris, c'est ainsi qu'on se rit à la table,
Car je ris, comme on dit, d'un ris sardonien
