A Vénus

Joachim du Bellay 1525 (Liré) – 1560 (Paris)

Ayant après long désir
Pris de ma douce ennemie
Quelques arrhes du plaisir,
Que sa rigueur me dénie,
Je t'offre ces beaux oeillets,
Vénus, je t'offre ces roses,
Dont les boutons vermeillets
Imitent les lèvres closes
Que j'ai baisé par trois fois,
Marchant tout beau dessous l'ombre
De ce buisson que tu vois
Et n'ai su passer ce nombre,
Parce que la mère était
Auprès de là, ce me semble,
Laquelle, nous aguettait
De peur encores j'en tremble.
Or' je te donne des fleurs
Mais si tu fais ma rebelle
Autant piteuse à mes pleurs,
Comme à mes yeux elle est belle,
Un myrthe je dédierai
Dessus les rives de Loire,
Et sur l'écorce écrirai
Ces quatre vers à ta gloire
« Thénot sur ce bord ici,
A Vénus sacre et ordonne
Ce myrthe et lui donne aussi
Ses troupeaux et sa personne. »
