Kann nicht reden, kann nicht schreiben,
Kann nicht sagen, wie mir ist!
Mir ist wohl und bang im Herzen,
Kann nicht ernst sein, kann nicht scherzen,
Kann nicht wissen, wie mir ist.

Mit der Arbeit will's nicht vorwärts.
Wie so leer es um mich ist.
Wie so voll ist's mir im Herzen!

Kann nur fühlen, kann nicht wissen,
Kann nicht sagen, was es ist,
Könnt ich singen, liebes Leben,
Würden Töne Kunde geben,
