I'll always be There for You

Waiting for the bus, on her first day of school
She grabs his hand and begins to cry
He lifts her up in his strong arms
And wipes the tears from her eyes

I know you don't want to leave dear
You need to smile and look ahead
She squeezed his hand ever harder
And this is what she said

Hold my hand Daddy
Don't ever let it go
I'm so very scared Daddy
But I don't want it to show

Oh my darling daughter
It’s time to see this through
But remember that whatever happens
I'll always be there for you

Now it’s twenty years later
She looks beautiful in her wedding dress
It’s obvious that she's been crying
The tears have made her makeup a mess

He reaches out and takes her hand
Pulls her in and hugs her tight
He wipes the tears from her eyes
She squeezes his hand oh so tight

Hold my hand Daddy
Don't ever let it go
I'm so very scared Daddy
But I don't want it to show

Oh my darling daughter
It’s time to see this through
But remember that whatever happens
I'll always be there for you

Many years pass by them
She gets the call to come home quick
Something's happened, he asking for her
They say he's deathly sick

She sits on the bed beside him
She knows his time is near
She hugs him tightly
And whispers in his ear

Hold my hand Daddy
Don't ever let it go
I'm so very scared Daddy
But I don't want it to show

Oh my darling daughter
It’s time to see this through
But remember that whatever happens
I'll always be there for you

Anthony Arsenault

My love for words became apparent to my family at a young age, when I took to reading, and always had to have a book. This love for books continued on and soon I was putting my own words to paper. I was al-ways a fan of creative writing, and often impressed my grade school teachers with my fantastic stories. At the age of 15, I wrote a poem called "Abused" for a grade 9 poetry assignment. I assure you I wasn't abused as a child, but the power of the poem brought the administration of the school to the class room with a barrage of questions. After assuring them I was taken care of, they praised my work. Four years later I entered a contest sponsored by the Canadian Chamber of Contemporary Poetry. Of thousands of contestants, I was in the top 100, and had my poem "Bob" published in their anthology “Scaling the Face of Reason". This was my first true accomplishment, and my first published work. more…
