Serenity's Eternal Shore : The Eye That Pierces Illusion

Sweeping currents surround the elysian shore
Where wisdom rests, tranquil and serene evermore
Yet distant storms unleash their roiling ire
As darkened souls assail with envious fire

Infernal tempests charge the steadfast eye
That gazes deep through maya’s murky guise
True sight discerns what feeble gazes lack
And spurns the shadows to unwrap the fact

So when the horde in fear and doubt conspire
To dim the light of truth’s exalted pyre
Stand firm, unshaken by their impish tricks
Lest wavering weakness fuel their lunatic fix

For well they sense the power of poised repose
To pierce the veil and expose all that glows
In radiant glory underneath the mire
That binds most men in bondage to desire

So heed them not, their squalling will soon pass
Like tracks erased in sand, cannot long last
Stay centered in the self, let calm prevail
And weather all their efforts to assail

The princely mind rules over its demesne
Not swayed by unctuous words and looks obscene
It rests assured in its own sovereign space
Unbroken by the rabble’s frantic pace

Yet when the serfs forget their station low
And make vain efforts turmoil to sow
The noble one feels not contempt nor hate
But grieves for those who spurn their proper fate

With equanimity the anarchy behold
As ignorance reaps the fate it would withhold
Compassion stirs for souls led far astray
Seduced from truth by maya’s fading play

So fret not when the fearful lash in pain
At phantoms conjured by their own inane
Perceptions - stand aloof, your mind at ease
No blame cast on those ailing with disease

Stay centered in your still and silent citadel
Impregnable to shards of dissonance fell
Assured that all things pass in measured pace
This moment’s patterns yield to time’s embrace

Yet wisdom whispers that all moments chime
In harmony’s eternal synchrony sublime
Each playing part in being’s resonant song
Discordant only to the deaf among

So judge not those embroiled in karmic plight
Their eyes beclouded by the quagmire’s blight
With empathy behold their flailing strife
And keep an even keel amidst the rife

For turbid storms soon pass and skies turn clear
As melody divine rings far and near
Attune your mind to that transcendent strain
And let not shadows blur the sight again

Stand tall, unbowed by tutelage unwise
That bids the sovereign self itself chastise
Be still within, all calumny defend
And tranquilly behold each challenge end

For trials teach the stalwart to command
The senses and the reins of thought in hand
While fragile minds uncentered quick capsize
When swirling currents rouse the tumult’s guise

Yet pity not the sunken, soon they’ll rise
Shedding their waterlogged and bloodshot eyes
To stand renewed upon the farther shore
As wisdom dawns they had not known before

Thus vision clears in every battle won
Each victory reveals the One in One
No foeman now where union shines revealed
As warring thoughts and clamors all are healed

So stay the course when gales of fury gust
Know trials make in time the mind robust
And enemies may prove the self’s best friend
Their venom curing what they would offend

Be then a sea of patience, ebb nor flow
Come storm or shine, stay tranquil, balanced, slow
Winds die, crests crumble, tempests never last
All dissipates before the sea so vast

The waves imagine they can stir the tide
Yet never can its silent depths divide
Stay one with depthless self and drink life’s fill
While trifles spark and flutter as they will

So stand unshaken, sturdy as a hill
Assailments wash away and leave no ill
Their memory fades like tracks left in the sand
While wisdom grows beneath understanding’s hand

Stay true, unvexed by all that would erode
The sovereign self’s serene and safe abode
Fear not, stay strong and obstacles will bend
As Truth shines forth and shadows find their end.

About this poem

This powerful free verse poem explores themes of resilience, tranquility, and enlightenment in the face of life's storms. Utilizing vivid natural imagery of the sea, tempests, and shadows, the poet evokes the struggles of the human condition as we seek truth and self-realization. The steadfast narrator acts as a beacon of light, anchored in equanimity and piercing through illusion's veil to see with wisdom's eye. Though assailed by the ignorant, they respond with compassion, remaining centered and assured of the eternal rhythms that undergird all changing phenomena. Trials are embraced as opportunities for greater understanding, and enemies as catalysts of growth. By maintaining inner stillness and recognizing the oneness beneath all apparent duality, the mind is fortified. The poem counsels responding to turmoil with patience and balance, seeing that no storm lasts forever when one abides in the depthless self. Through vivid sensory language and skillful use of imagery, the verse powerfully condenses profound existential and spiritual insights.
