Sur la rosace éclose au centre du parquet
Pose ton pied léger, écoute et sois furtive ;
La solitude parle à celle qui arrive ;
N’as-tu pas entendu le marbre qui craquait ?
La harpe tremble et vibre à ton pas indiscret,
Le lustre se balance et son cristal s’avive ;
De ce qui semble mort crois-tu que rien ne vive ?
La glace a son fantôme et tout a son secret.
Le temps passe ; tout fuit ; les choses sont fidèles,
L’invisible silence évente de ses ailes
La poussière pensive et l’ombre transparente ;
Et, sur la table nue où le marbre veiné
A quelque chair ancienne et pâle s’apparente,
Effeuille le bouquet que l’Amour t’a donné.
