Captivating Love's Obsessive Embrace

Tammie Swinehart 1974 (Mooresville, IN)

In shadows deep, where hearts entwine,
A tale of love, both sweet and thine,
Yet once a spark, now blazing fire,
Consumes the soul, a wild desire.

Obsession's grip, a potent snare,
Like tendrils winding everywhere,
Through veins of longing, it does creep,
Into the heart's chambers, secrets keep.

With every breath, it draws us near,
Whispering promises, crystal clear,
But chains unseen, they slowly bind,
Till love's embrace becomes confined.

No solace found in daylight's ray,
For thoughts of them still lead astray,
A captive to the echoes sweet,
That love's obsession, replete.

Oh, how it weaves its tangled thread,
Around the mind, where dreams are bred,
A prison of the heart and mind,
A refuge, yet no peace to find.

In fevered moments, passion soars,
Yet underneath, a tempest roars,
For love once tender, now commands,
A puppeteer with binding strands.

Escape's elusive, as winds that blow,
A storm of feelings, ceaseless flow,
An echo in the empty spaces,
Of longing hearts and hidden places.

Oh, love, a beauty and a curse,
A universe in which we're immersed,
Consumed, captivated, entwined,
In love's embrace, our souls confined.

But in the shadows, there's a choice,
To find a balance, hear a voice,
For love should lift, not hold us down,
An ember's glow, not fiery crown.

Let not obsession's chains define,
The love we share, our hearts align,
With open eyes and hearts set free,
Love's truest form, its ecstasy.

About this poem

This poem is about a boy I dated in high school. He was a bit older than me and just troubled all around. He was absolutely, positively, obsessively in love with me. At the time I was too young to think it anything other than this love story about the girl who was trying to save the poor misguided young man. But really, I was just stupid, and he was just a weirdo.

Tammie Swinehart

Not much to say. I live in a small town in Indianapolis and work full-time as a manager for an insurance company. I have written poems going back to grade school. They were all horrible, but fun and passed the time. I have journals of poems that go back 40 years. So now that I have more free time, I dig them out, clean them up while preserving the original thought and meaning behind them. more…
