Brev til Fru Saabye

Hans Christian Andersen 1805 (Odense) – 1875 (Copenhagen)

Min naadige Frue!
                               De maa vide:
I Sind og Skind maa jeg Stakkel lide,
Jeg har et Hold i min venstre Side;
Det holder mig hjemme, det gjør mig Qval.
Jeg sidder saa eensom paa anden Sal,
Kan ikke komme, — ja, det er Sorgen;
Derude er Aftenen meer end sval.
Jeg hilser bestemt paa Dem imorgen
Og beder med Læbernes smeltende Klang:
Forglem mig ikke en anden Gang!
Iaften altsaa jeg sorgfuld svigter.
Forøvrigt
                               ærbødigst
                                                 Deres Digter.
