IL n'y a que la mère et les deux fils
    Tout est ensoleillé
    La table est ronde
    Derrière la chaise où s'assied la mère
    Il y a la fenêtre
    D'où l'on voit la mer
    Briller sous le soleil
    Les caps aux feuillages sombres des pins et des oliviers
    Et plus près les villas aux toits rouges
    Aux toits rouges où fument les cheminées
    Car c'est l'heure du repas
    Tout est ensoleillé
    Et sur la nappe glacée
    La bonne affairée
    Dépose un plat fumant
    Le repas n'est pas une action vile
    Et tous les hommes devraient avoir du pain
    La mère et les deux fils mangent et parlent
    Et des chants de gaîté accompagnent le repas
    Les bruits joyeux des fourchettes et des assiettes
    Et le son clair du cristal des verres
    Par la fenêtre ouverte viennent les chants des oiseaux
    Dans les citronniers
    Et de la cuisine arrive
    La chanson vive du beurre sur le feu
    Un rayon traverse un verre presque plein de vin mélangé d'eau
    Oh ! le beau rubis que font du vin rouge et du soleil
    Quand la faim est calmée
    Les fruits gais et parfumés
    Terminent le repas
    Tous se lèvent joyeux et adorent la vie
    Sans dégoût de ce qui est matériel
    Songeant que les repas sont beaux sont sacrés
    Qui font vivre les hommes
