Love's Defense Against Pain

Oh love, with eyes that gleam like gold,
Your heart, so bright, yet feels so cold.
I know you've been hurt, that much is true,
But let me try to warm it through and through.

I know your defenses are high,
Built up to protect you from the lie,
Of love that once left you in pain,
But I promise, with me, it won't be the same.

I'll be gentle, and hold you tight,
And chase away your fears through the night,
I'll listen, and understand your soul,
And never, ever, let you go.

So let me in, and let me show,
That love can heal, and make you glow,
With happiness and joy untold,
And a heart, once broken, now made whole.
