The Jester's Crown
it takes a day to win someone’s heart
but it takes forever to mend a broken heart
and here we are, loving like it’s been forever
yet in between, a wall shows up whenever
one might let it slip under their noses
well love’s no trip to a garden of roses
it’s up to you if it’s a curse or a blessing
for no other matter would be as pressing
blame it on serendipity if you will
but love’s not something you just stumble up on a hill
for the weather comes in different seasons
just as love arrives for its peculiar reasons
one might argue, is love, not Valentine?
well it certainly is neither all sunshine
love can break you and test you until you drown
but never be a jester protecting your crown
About this poem
The jester’s crown is a poem about how love is not all about fun romance, but also a battle of pride. Some may choose to smell the rose or maybe feel its thorns, but true love is when you see the whole rose for what it is. Those who fall in love are all fools as a jester, and those who fail in love are all jesters protecting their crown; a crown that symbolizes one’s pride. You’re already a fool, to begin with, so don’t be a fool who makes themselves more of a fool. Love is not prideful, it is an emotion, your vulnerability, but most importantly, a four-way honesty. more »
