I'm still processing that

Hudson Marais 2003 (Cape Town)

I keep picking fights
with the wall
not because they
did something wrong
But because I
don’t see a reason not to

Shatter proof
The glassiness in my eyes
But yet shattered
The walls of rivers
I keep inside

Right minded
and so lively
Yet the deep dark sleep
has risen before us
one casing away
as it tells me they adore us

They see
a standing pillar
amongst the rocks
and yet ignores
the hours of sand
that had drifted away
to make me stay

Now my soul feels old and weak
and the light has begun to fade
another night
another fight
with the walls
but they chose to stay
