The Ocean's Influence

She swims in the waves that travel the expanse of the sea, in search of a destination that never comes or for a rescuer that never rescues.

And she bathes in the reflection of the sun, but never in its direct light, for it never seems to catch her at the right moment.

And she gazes up at the clouds, reaching out with her willowy fingers for a sweet caress of the perfection she is always yearning for but can never claim as her own.

And then, the deceptive tide pulls her under as she claws at the surface in a worthless effort to pull the fresh air into her salty lungs.

And just as she loses hope and gives herself in to the ocean's influence, she is released slowly and gently back up to the choppy, unforgiving surface to begin her never-ending voyage once more.

About this poem

When I started this, I didn't know how it would turn out; I just wrote. It's about being stuck in your head and not having a way out.
