Orpheus's Song

Free verse
I am nothing but
raw human yearning stitched,
into the vague shape of a person.
Threatening to burst at the seams,
with how much I want.
I crave so much yet deserve too little.

Bleeding lips hurt,
the iron tang reminds me -
I am alive.
Mortal with my mortal sins,
the pain of losing faith
soothed by your love.
Like the sting
of alcohol over bitten fingers.
