Zeus's Seduction of Danae

A dreamy face, a head of golden strawberries
locked away in a tower of mossy mortar and stone
from a father, a king wretched, but still afraid to kill.

Skin pale as rotting flesh
but eyes blue like fire as the dawn's revealed
A flame burning surrounded by a wall of ice.

You spend the day peering out of the small portal
trying to catch a handful of sunlight
to take with you as you sleep.
And recite the love songs of distant birds
taking roost in the Norfolk pine

Danae, tonight as you dream of rainbows and clover
I shall come to you, In a shower of gold
do not fear, for I alone have heard your plea
and I shall impregnate you with hope and a new song
a thousand legions cannot destroy.
