Penitent

Oh what a fate doth lie in wait for all the evildoers
And ev’n me, a sinner be, was ne’er the saint on bended knee

But oh what a joy, a jealous joy, awaits the penitent sinner boy
For a terrible troll stilled a soul here in the North Country

Tho’ “Woe is me!” Isaiah be, but woe am I as well
For’ I ha’e spied what few ha’e spied and ken there is a hell

“See this burning coal has touched your lips,” the Lord decreed I pray “All your guilt and sin is thus atoned for, now go and serve me from this day.”
