Michael divine- a republican revolutionary.

Born in the City of Derry by the Foyle
Michael Divine loved his country and
Its people to the extent that he died
During a ‘hunger strike’ protest
Against Britain’s refusal to leave Ireland.
~
The cross of life Michael bore was a heavy one
For his mother died when he was very young
And his father departed also early… A cross
Which, alas, Mrs Divine and their children
Eventually shared…
~
Personally, Mickey, as he was often referred to
Was a genuine person whose commitment to
Bringing about the freedom of his native land
Was well beyond any ones imagination- in fact
His death willingly sacrificed emphasised the
Heroic courage blooming within his mind and heart.
~
A martyr- the giver of his life for others- must have
Experienced a sense of hell as the days passed
In his journey towards his early departure from life-
A life which he loved but sacrificed in pursuit of
A nation’s right to freedom and national self-
Determination. Oh! it is far, far beyond description…
~
Yes! A likeable and a courageous red haired
Person from alongside the banks of the river Foyle
Died willingly while on hunger strike to help free
His native land of Ireland from the fangs of
Imperialist Britain!
