Dreams

DREAMS.

What is a dream ? that transient power
That cometh near the midnight hour
To carry me to pastures new
And bid my anxious fears adieu.

To re-examine highs and lows
Of whence one came and where one goes
Permitting precious crops to reap
Within the confines of our sleep.

Yes, what are dreams ? but what is life ?
That feverish time of love and strife
The brief extent of time allowed
Between the napkin and the shroud.

That period when from day to day
There’s work to do and bills to pay
A struggle for a credit page
That we may visit in old age.

And yet, when we retire to bed
Those pictures come within our head
Brief visions beamed from near and far
Perhaps to show our Shangri La.

A large part of my life it seems
Has been predicted in my dreams
And so my friends I put to you
Life is a dream – that’s all come true.
