Aur Cymraeg.

I was on the 18th green at Mold
And I struck the ball too hard
It finished up in Henty Road
In Charlie Ward’s back yard.

Now Charlie was a mean old sod
In fact he was a miser
And he sold my ball to a German guy
Who lived in Mynydd Isa.

But my golf ball was special
It held a radio cell
And each time it was handled
It rang my telephone bell.

So I drove to Mynydd Isa
To retrieve my precious orb
And that is how I came to meet
My good friend  Gottfried Taub.

Yes, Gottfried was a character
A former Hitler Youth
Who got out just before the war
When someone leaked the truth.

In Wales he studied mining
And he worked by night and day
To find a source of precious ore
In Mold or Wrexham way.

He’d bought an ancient document
Which claimed, in days of old
That somewhere in the area
They’d found a seam of gold.

Through Summer, Autumn, Winter
He’d surveyed every quarter
Sometimes moving tons of soil
Often under water.

Last week Gottfried passed away
A disappointed man
With his last will and testament
He’d left me his last plan.

Sketched in several colours
Shades of light and dark
Suggesting that the golden seam
Runs under Broncoed Park.

Now as you know I’m much too old
To find this hidden seam
But listen up you North Wales lads
I have a cunning scheme.

I’d value your opinions
But to me it seems quite nifty
I’ll pass the treasure map to you
And we’ll go fifty-fifty.

So come along my lovely boys
Just write a verse or two
Explaining all the reasons
Why I should share with you.
