Par ce temps si bénin, après tant de froidure,
Dans les grands terrains gris, sur les coteaux chenus,
On a l'impression parmi ces arbres nus
D'un très beau jour d'été sans fleurs et sans verdure.

Les pieds ne glissent plus sur la terre moins dure
Où les feux du soleil, presque tous revenus,
Allument cailloux, rocs, sable et gazons menus.
Dans l'atmosphère souffle un vent tiède qui dure.

Et çà et là - près d'un marais,
D'un taillis, d'un pacage, auprès
D'un ruisseau bordé de vieux aunes,

Le printemps s'annonce à vos yeux
Avec le vol silencieux
De beaux petits papillons jaunes.
