narcissist's are sweets

Sweets can be colourful, tasty, and appealing they be
so colourful so bright and this is what you first see
then you believe they are nice and that they will not trick
but once in your mouth they start to make you feel sick
now you can't get them out as they have taken control
just like sweets there are narcicissts to take your soul
narcicissts are bright, attractive, and appealing they be
but once you let them in then you can no longer free
when you start to doubt them they will start to give
you another sweet believing the colour still can live
sweet and then sour, love and then pain
this is how they take control and how they gain
control of your mind, your heart and your soul
focused on needing the sweet is what takes it toll
the diversion, the tactics, they consume your mind
no longer you think you just want them to be kind
each day that you focus on wanting the sweet
you don't realise that darkness soon you will meet
then one day when they give what you want
its bitter and sour and hurts but you just can't
find the energy to spit or to vomit the sweet out
your mouth can't speak, voice gone and no shout
how didn't I see that the sweet had an aim
to control and to take me, was always the sweets game
watching me and playing me and taking control
losing my mind losing my body and losing my soul
what is then left, just me wanting the sweet
he doesn't give it to me so darkness I then meet

About this poem

I have experienced domestic abuse from a narcissist and this poem is to raise awareness that narcissist's will appear like sweets, attractive and colourful, but this is then their control over you which breaks you in time

My world crashed down around me when the coercive and controlling domestic abuse I experienced over many years finally achieved its aim, which was to break me. The person responsible is a narcissist and this led to my suicide attempt which should have killed me, and the removal of my friends, family, and my career. I started writing poetry and my book to document each day during the years I was trying to heal myself. each poem represents a period of realisation or documents a moment in time which either broke me or healed me. My aim is to raise awareness of this type of domestic abuse which due to not being physical or sexual, is ignored by Government, MP's, and the Police. It is the invisible domestic abuse killer but can be more damaging than any other abuse. I want to hopefully help other people experiencing this abuse to have clarity earlier than I did, and before it breaks them like it did me more…
