In the Curve of Your Smile: A Love's Journey

In the curve of your smile I found

Solace for my weary heart and mind unbound,

A place of respite and reprieve profound,

But in my quest to yield and intertwine

I lost myself as self no more defined.

For in your light I ceased to shine,

No longer I but rendered as thine,

Surrendered in your warmth divine,

My soul now bound to you, entwined.

Your lips, a chalice brimming with life-giving wine,

Quenched my thirst yet left me blind

To my fading self, no longer mine.

Your heart, a vault where secrets hide

Unseen by my eyes now closed inside

Your spirit's veil, your love the guide

To realms transcending time and space

Where for a while I lose my place

Dissolving in your sweet embrace.

In the curve of your smile I found

A love supreme, beyond earth's bound,

Two souls as one, our spirits crowned

In glorious cosmic union.

But then, bereft when you were gone

The loss left me in desolation.

For I had given you all, life's sum

Not knowing our time would be so brief,

Now leaving me in darkened grief

Bereft of joy, numb beyond belief.

In the radiance of your being

I basked, from darkness freed,

Found healing I so desperately needed

But in my bliss, I failed to heed

The limits of a mortal's greed.

I flew too close to your bright flame

Assumed your eternal grace,

Took more than my small frame could claim,

Now lost, disconnected, not the same.

Without your light I dwell in shame.

In the curve of your smile I found

A sense of purpose, vision sound

But in my quest to have you around

I pushed you away, couldn't let go

Now reaping sorrow I did sow.

My clinging desires seeded woe.

I thought your joy would fulfill me

Your love would make me complete

But true wholeness comes from within, you see

Not grasping or thirsting just to please

The frightened ego on bended knees.

I placed you high upon a pedestal

Thought your smiles would make me whole

But my healing came from deep within soul.

Now I understand it is not another

Who can complete or fill the lack

The journey home is inside, back

To source, to self, to spirit's core.

In the curve of your smile I found

New hopes and dreams that did abound

But in my zeal those dreams to hound

I built an illusion, sandcastle

Destined to crumble, frail and weak

For longing flows where rivers meet

But two souls dwell on different streets.

You were an angel who lit my way

When I dwelled in sorrow's gray

But then I begged you stay and stay

Not realizing all things change

Impermanence is life's one strange refrain.

Now alone again yet still the same,

The light you gave has slipped its tether

But burns on in me, our souls still together.

In the curve of your smile I found

A luminous realm of awe profound

But in my bliss those joys to hound

I overstayed my welcome shine

O'erlooked the boundaries divine.

You were a muse, an inspiration

Who resurrected dead dreams, gave animation

To visions and art that lift all creation.

But a muse's gift is for a season,

Not for selfish taking beyond reason.

Now you have flown to aid another

While I sit here longing for your light

Knowing that loss has honed my sight:

All things change, grow and wither

Even love must move on eventually

For attachment breeds anxiety.

Now with grace I release you to destiny.

In the curve of your smile I found

Possibilities pure and profound

But in my fervency those to hound

I wandered far from my true abode

Got lost in fantasies down spurious road.

You were a flame guiding me home

When in shadows I did roam

But I wanted you for my own.

Like Icarus with waxen wings

I flew too close to radiant Sun

Now watching my fanciful world undone

For I misunderstood love's purpose.

Love sets free, uplifts and opens

Not clings, grasps, demands or encloses.

Now wiser, when passion closes

I'll recall how your smiling eyes

Lit in me immortal fire, sublime

That burns on past place and time.

In the curve of your smile I found

Love - unbridled, unbound,

A divine invincible force.

In its grace I felt no remorse,

Felt lifted beyond earthly course.

But love cannot be owned or possessed.

It exists just to be expressed,

 Shared freely, detached, unrepressed.

I wanted your love for my own

To steal your smile's shine for my home

But love needs free space to roam.

True love is not a binding pact

Or bars that hold another trapped

It's an opening, a door unlocked.

Now I know that love cannot be grasped

It's a bird that needs to fly unclasped

Now released, no longer my kept prize

You soar to your home in the skies

As I set your sweet memory free with no lies.

I will hold the truths love did impart

Locked away in my soul's treasure chest

As on my journey I am blessed.

In the curve of your smile I found

A wholeness so radiant, spellbinding, profound,

But like Icarus who dared fly too close to the sun,

In my quest to possess what I thought I had won,

I lost myself, came undone.

For love cannot be owned or contained,

It touches our lives but for a brief while,

Its fleeting grace seen in your smile,

A gift sublime but not to be chained.

I basked in your light, angel divine,

Thought your soul would forever entwine with mine,

But you were a messenger, a muse for a time,

Not mine to hold through all space and time.

Now I understand that love must be free,

Cannot be bound by you or me.

True love untethers, uplifts and expands,

Liberates both heart and mind,

Sacred grace for human-kind,

Beyond attachment's clinging hands.

Now with wisdom, not sadness, I let you go,

As your journey continues to unfold,

Mine as well, new lessons to behold,

As eternal souls we ebb and flow.

I will hold close the gift you did bestow

In the curve of your smile, compassion aglow,

A gift no one can steal or own

That lit my way when dark clouds loomed

Now a part of me, deeply entombed

In my soul's memories, etched in stone.

In the curve of your smile I found

A love pure, by no bonds bound

But caged love loses force and ground

And so I set your spirit free

Knowing true love is liberty

Not clinging, greed or captivity.

I release you with blessings galore

As we part now to meet no more

In this life's dream, this mortal shore.

You were a gift, an angel of mercy

When in the valleys my feet did trudge

Yours the love my heart did covet

Ours a sacred, cosmic bond

Now untied, disentwined

For attachment exists in mind.

You live on in me, blood and bone

As I carry the love you have shown

It will dwell in me, never alone.

For love leaves its seed behind

To uplift, heal and remind -

We are one, of single kind.

And so I set your spirit free

To ascend its rightful place

Among the stars, in realms of grace.

In the curve of your smile I found

A love divine, without earthly bound

Full of light once lost, now found

But like thieves we stole this love

Kept it chained in selfish hold

Rather than free, as loves of old.

T'was a gift shared for a time

That opened hearts, unfettered minds

But we sought to own love's shine.

Rather than free, we captured and bound

Like caged birds no longer found

That magical, transcendent sound.

Love cannot be owned or possessed

It touches down for a moment blessed

Then must return to its sacred nest.

Now I understand - love comes to uplift,

A temporary grace, an ephemeral gift,

Not to cling to, hoard or cling.

And so I wish your spirit well

As it journeys forth, no longer held

By passions that love repel.

I release you with an open hand

As souls once joined now separate stand

And understanding, not sorrow, is what I command.

In the curve of your smile I found

A love so pure, so cleansing, so profound

But like hungry ghosts that love did hound

Ever grasping for more

We caged love's wings to keep it in store

Rather than let it fly and soar.

True love cannot be owned or possessed

It alights ever so light and gentle

A hummingbird come to nest-

Staying just long enough to bless

With gifts of grace meant to impress

That we are one consciousness.

In our ignorance we captured and caged

What was meant to be free, to disengage

Now love's remnants out of our reach and age.

But its blessings linger on

Like embers that glimmer on and on

When the once raging fire is gone.

I will hold close these remnants of grace

Of a love once dwelling in sacred place

Never to be owned, always on loan.

To open our hearts, expand human mind

Proving that we all are of one kind-

One light, eternal and undefined.

And so I set your spirit free

Without sadness, with clarity

Wishing you only sanctity.

Our bond was a gift, for a time,
Now dissolved, as life's dream sublimes.

In the curve of your smile I found
The radiance of love without end or bound
A gift so beautiful, so profound
But like Icarus I flew too high
Thought that love was mine to own
Now only ashes and loss have I sown.

For love cannot be caged or possessed
It alights only to help us progress
Touching our souls at life's behest
A hummingbird visiting a flower
Exchanging gifts in the moment's power
But never to keep, only to empower.

I reveled in love's tender embrace
Mistook its magic for my own
Now bereft and so alone
For wanting more than my share
Of love's sweetness, so fine and rare
Only frees love to the open air.

Love dwells only when uncontained
Its bonds loose, its spirit unchained
Ever restless, refusing be trained .

And so I release you, sweet love
No sadness or anguish thereof
Only with gratitude thereof.

Our love was a gift, gracious and grand
But not mine for taking, only on loan
A treasure that now has flown.

I will hold its blessings within
As time moves on and our paths bend
And understanding love's essence transcends.

For love touches down ever so light
Opens our hearts, expands life's sight
But never to own, only ignite.

In the curve of your smile I found
A shining realm so spellbinding, profound
But like Icarus, to close to the sun I flew
Now burned and broken, my dream undone
For wanting more than my share
Of your love so gracious and rare.

Love cannot be owned or possessed
It's a bird that needs to fly unsuppressed
A soft wind that blows at bequest.

I clawed and grasped to make love stay
Built gilded cages to keep it my way
But true love refuses any sway.

It dwells only when left uncontained
Ever restless, refusing be chained
Seeking its freedom when feelings wane.

And so I release you, sweet love
No longer mine, returned to above
But our bond forever I speak of.

It touched down ever so gentle and light
Lit up my soul with its fiery might
A spark that still glows in my night.

For love's blessings linger on
Like embers that smolder on and on
Long after love's flowers are gone.

I hold these remnants so dear
Of a love beyond earthly sphere
A gift transcendent so fine and clear.

Now understanding love's purpose true
Only to lift, never subdue
I wish your spirit the best rendezvous.

In the curve of your smile I found

A love divine, without earthly bound

Full of light once lost, now found

But like thieves we stole this love

Kept it chained in selfish hold

Rather than free, as loves of old.

'Twas a gift shared for a time

About this poem

This poem beautifully explores the theme of love, attachment, and the impermanence of human relationships. It delves into the deep emotions and experiences that come with falling in love, the desire to possess it, and the eventual realization that true love is about freedom and letting go. The imagery of Icarus flying too close to the sun and the concept of capturing and caging love convey the idea that love cannot be contained but should be allowed to flourish independently. It's a profound reflection on the complexities of love and the lessons learned when it is approached with wisdom and understanding.
