A template's form

Val Villarreal, Jr. 1949 (Aransas Pass, Texas)

Shadows curl
like brews that spin with direful energy---

they whip up ecstasy,
and wares disembark from where they were.

Seas unfurl; presence cries,
upturned shades are laid bare;
crests weave.

I carry nothing with me but the sight of you,
that template of what love means to me.

Yet, even through this changing sea
this settlement endures,

and under easy pinions I lay
     irrevocably framed.
