Your Father's Son
Sharon Stubblefield 1966 (Bronx, NY)
Full of pride and strength but unsure of his own worth
Scared of the gift that was bestowed upon him
A child in the body of a man forced to face his destiny
Remember what wwas given to you passed down through history
Visions of strength and might from warriors who stood strong
Stand as the man you were raised to be
Become your father's son the one he has chosen, the one he made
First born son to lead, learn and hear all the lessons around you
Listen to the sound of history in the wind
Hear the beat of the drums, the song of our tribe
Allow your heart and soul to join with those of the past
Listen, listen to the words that were set down from times gone by
Listen to the voice of your father, remember the lessons he gave
You said that you were your father's son PROVE IT
Honor his memory, honor the gift that he has given you; given us
All debts has been of the son has been laid clean
Claim the responsibility that is yours, take the stff that has been passed on to you
In the mirror you will see
THAT YOU ARE THE MAN YOU ARE SUPPOSE TO BE
YOUR FATHER'S SON
About this poem
I wrote this poem to my brother shortly after our father passed away. We all was having a hard time of it, but he seemed to be taking especially hard so I decided to write this to him so that he'll remember the strength that our father installed in all of us.
