A Statue's Lament

Still as a statue, frozen in time
Seasons changing to heaven’s design
Heart’s willing, but no motion remains
Wishing for progress, but going insane

Life grows, dies, and is reborn
Cycles steadfast as like death assured
Watching rotations around the sun
Above and below, but not upon

The grass withers, flowers fade
Stages of life and death on parade
Shifting sands, rolling tides
Years of chaos doomed to collide

All these measures of moments pass
But I, myself stuck in time’s collapse
Set to repeat the mistakes long gone
And mourn the cycles of life not done

Here I stand, like Atlas to the world
Shoulders heavy, and hands curled
Never dropping the weight of life’s cry
And suffer as I watch it pass me idly by

My mistakes boxing me in like prison walls
Pain becoming the jailer’s horrid call
Forced to suffer for the sake of peace
And never see these chains release

So thus the question holds as this
Will I greet death with sweetest kiss
Or will I stand forever more
A cold statue weathering a perfect storm
