The habit I can't quit
I'm going on a trip
I'm skipping town
You're a habit I've got to quit
I'm better off when you're not around
My heart can't take it anymore
The way I feel when you're in my arms
Makes me think I was better off before
You came along and did me any harm
All these fears I've kept locked inside
Hidden away too afraid to let the world see
But the truth comes out every time I cry
These tears refuse to hide my insecurity
I get scared every time I think about dying alone
This world can be so cruel and cold
Making it so hard to be on your own
Without knowing love, without knowing a lovers hold
Perhaps I've been lonely too long
Maybe I'm just afraid to remember how
It could be that happiness and love just feels wrong
Or maybe I'm just too old and broken now
So I'm just gonna take a trip
Try to forget the taste of your lips
Maybe I'll be better when you're not around
Maybe then I'll forget how sweet your voice sounds
After all the miles, after all the years, maybe I'll finally be able to admit
That no matter the distance, no matter the time, loving you is the one habit I could never quit....
About this poem
This one is fairly personal to me. Wrote it to be a song, but not sure it is, in the traditional sense.
