You Did What I Didn't Have To Do
Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)
We will show and prove to you,
What power over others is.
With a preventing,
Of any of their progress made.
To control and rule their movements too!
'Whew!
That's a relief.
At least this activity of yours will show,
No progress can you make...
Without having others to believe,
We were the ones depending upon you...
Doing it,
While destroying all of our quality of life!'
'Uh...
You are misunderstanding,
When we obtain that image of power?
Everyone will bow to us,
With a worshipping what power is...
That represents it symbolically!'
'Hey?
No argument you get from me.
I remember years ago,
When my mother came home...
Tired from working.
To earn well below minimum wage.
Back in those days when women,
Were barely paid at all.
And she announced very clearly,
You, meaning me, are the oldest.
I'll show you how to use a can opener.
Turn on the stove.
Then put the beans from that can,
In a pot.
And when those beans become hot.
After that...
Use your common sense.
Me? Meaning her,
I am going to take a bath. To then relax!'
'What is that long boring tale told to us,
Is suppose to mean?'
'After my mother's comments were made,
I thought them to be funny.
I laughed.
And not from disrespect.
I laughed because right then I knew,
My mother was teaching me a lesson.'
'And?
Open my head with this ghetto wisdom!'
'If people make themselves known,
To be dependent on others.
But...
Portray themselves to be leaders?
And not the followers they actually are?
Guess who ain't going nowhere,
Without knowing...
Who has the can opener?
And...
Knows how to use it!'
'That makes absolutely no sense.'
'I didn't suspect it would.
When was the last time,
You have even seen a can opener?
Not to mention...
Knowing how to use it.
Or...
Begging for assistance!
And...
Please understand to know this,
I have no concern at all...
About you boasting to have power.
You know why?'
'Why?
Fool whose foot I am standing on!'
'Everything you have ever had,
Came from me to steal it!
Then to throw a tantrum,
When I refused to be that fool.
My foot you stand on says one thing!
You care to know what that is?'
'No!'
'I'm gonna say it anyway.
My foot you stand on?
With all that 'power'?
Still keeps you staying here to do it.
Hoping I will be left impressed,
By you hitting your head...
Repeatedly against a brick wall.
Seeking to be thought of as a hero.
After long proving...
Heros don't do stupid 'stuff'.
Just for the attention for being ignorant!'
'Oh?
So...
You think me to be stupid and ignorant?'
'I stopped thinking that,
Long before you went out of your way...
Making that a public announcement!
You did what I didn't have to do.
To make an allegation,
left to have on minds to assume...
A credible and factual presentation,
Is evidence enough even in the act...
Of denial and faked tears to weep.
Not too many will continue to disbelieve,
You are an opportunistic leech!'
'Is that a...
Good or a bad thing?'
'It doesn't matter.
Your followers and supporters,
Only seek media coverage.
To then express their apologies.
After their books are published!'
